CPV Technology

Trisolia is engaged in research and development of concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) electricity generation, using triple junction solar cells. Multi-junction solar cells were introduced several years ago and are a significant improvement on conventional silicon solar cells. A multi-junction cell with an optimal concentrator can produce roughly 2,500 times as much power as a conventional solar cell. Best of all, CPV produces energy much more cheaply than flat panel arrays because, although multi-junction cells are more expensive than conventional silicon cells, you need far fewer cells to produce much more power.

All CPVs consist of four components: 1) a multi-junction solar cell; 2) a reflector or refractor to concentrate the energy and beam it at the cell; 3) a space frame to hold everything together; and 4) a tracker to follow the sun. Each of these components offers unique design challenges, and each must be optimally designed and integrated with one another to wring the maximum amount of energy from each ray of sunlight.

The Trisolia Solution

Trisolia has created proprietary technologies and new integrations in three areas relating to the CPV: reflector technology, integrated space frame design, and solar-tracking.
